“Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you.”
Deuteronomy 3:22
Tonight as I dropped one of my dearest friends off at her home, I sat in her driveway waiting for her to make it safely inside. While I waited, anxiety began to fill my soul. I dread leaving her house at night, and not because she lives in a rough neighborhood. It’s quite the opposite. She lives a mile off a country road, but let me tell you … if you’ve never been a mile into the country at night … it is some kind of dark.
As she made her way to her door, I sat there praying God I don’t want to be scared of the dark. I’m 32 years old, shouldn’t I be stronger than this. I tell my kids every night … “Girls there is nothing to be afraid of. It’s just the dark.” Yet even still, here I sit, trying to convince myself … “Girl there is nothing to be afraid of. It’s just the dark.”
A word of advice to anyone using this statement to reassure any child … no matter how many times this statement is said, it provides zero comfort. Nope none whatsoever!
Why wasn’t this helping? Why didn’t I believe it? Oh that’s it … it’s not the dark I was afraid of. No sir! It’s what’s hiding in the dark that completely freaked me out!
It was with this thought today’s word became alive …
God is READY!
Ready is defined as: prepared mentally or physically for some experience or action; willingly disposed; likely to do something indicated; immediately available
What freaked me out … the unknown … the uncertainty darkness brought …
Peace came when my fears were settled. I could proceed through the darkness with certainty when I came to the realization that God, my God , The God was indeed ready … ready, willing and able to fight anything that approached me in the dark.
God is the only One who is mentally and physically prepared for those experiences in the dark.
Job 34:21 “His eyes are on the ways of mortals; He sees their every step.”
- There is not one decision made or one action performed that God is not fully aware of or permitted.
God know immediately what it will take to over come what awaits us in the darkness.
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
- God knows what it will take because He’s already conquered everything that was sent to bring us harm.
God willingly sent of His Son, and His Son willingly disposed of His very own life in order to save me from being consumed by darkness.
1 John 1:5 “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.”
- Darkness is absent anywhere God is.
God will perform the actions He has already indicated.
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
- The action performed is this … HE OVERCOMES THE WORLD! He will have victory over darkness!
God is immediately ready, willing and able!
Matthew 14:30 “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
- Nothing ever delays God when His children genuinely cry out to Him. He hears our cry and immediately He’s there! Praise the Lord!
Oh Great God in Heaven! The One with infinite and perfect wisdom. As I approach the dark paths of this journey called life, Lord may my focus remain fixed on You – the source of true Light. One that has always been and one that will always be. The Light that no matter how strong the wind blows, how hard the rains falls or how many storms come upon it – It shall never burn out! Forgive me for the times I’ve doubted You in the dark. You promised to not only be there with me in the battle, but You’ve promised to fight it for me. Lord help me to show up! Help me to stand firm and to shine brightly the Light and Savior of this world. For it’s in His name I pray … Amen!
