… for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God. And Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me … but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”
– John 12:43-45, 49-50 NASB
Sweet, sweet gracious and merciful heavenly Father… You are our Light in a dark and often foggy world. Your words and Your will can be trusted. We can read in scripture and look back across our own lives and see the many ways You have proven Yourself worthy – worthy of our worship, worthy of our praise, worthy of our trust, and worthy of a life lived in obedience to You. You and You alone are the only One worthy of such love and devotion.
Yet as soon as we face opposition, as soon as our decisions are questioned by those around us, those whose opinions we value… we begin to question Your perfect judgment, Your infinite wisdom, Your unbreakable promises, Your infallible word – we begin to question You.
Oh Father, forgive me for allowing my decisions and my actions to become influenced by this corrupt world. We as a country are so dedicated to the pursuit of our own personal happiness that we fail to see much less pursue our real purpose – the one given by You. Why would we ever pursue anything other than our God given purpose?! Two words come to mind… doubts and fears.
Whether they are fostered by my own mind or whether they are put there by those I love… if I focus any of my attention on them the outcomes could be lethal. Oh Lord, how many times have I fallen because I choose to doubt You, and how many times have I fallen because I chose to listen to the crowd. Thank You for preserving the stories that fill Your word. The ones that reveal the miracles that lie beyond doubt and fear. Thank You for the opportunity to try and try again. Oh sweet heavenly Father who offers forgiveness so freely and who offers it completely, I ask that You would wash me clean! Make me acceptable to be in Your sight. Restore in me that which sin has destroyed.
Lord, right now in my life I know that You are calling me out upon the waters. I know that You are desiring that my faith match my God, and Lord that excites me and terrifies me all at the same time. This year has just begun and I’ve already experienced one of the most heart wrenching experiences of my life as well as the most heartwarming. I’ve seen Your hand move and I felt the resistance of those around me.
Lord, I pray that You keep my eyes, my heart and my mind focused on You. Allow my feet to continue to follow in sync with Yours. Silence every doubt. Remove every fear. Give me the strength to place my trust fully in You, and as the disapproval of others threatens to still my focus, catch my gaze by whatever means necessary. Nothing would be as painful or as devastating as leaving Your presence and abandoning Your will.
Father, I gave You my life many years ago, and today I devote it along with every member it contains for You to do with as You please. Let me become nothing more than a vessel that Your precious Holy Spirit would be allowed to live His life through me. Not that I may be seen, Lord but that You may be seen. For it’s in Jesus name I pray each and every thing, amen.
