“For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace” Romans 8:6
Each and every sin begins first with a thought … To do … or Not to do …
This is not new news. In fact it’s something we hear over and over again.
“Do not be conformed but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:1-2 NASB
Yet as I stood back and studied the armored soldier … made of the strongest material available … covering the soldier from head to toe … each piece fashioned to provide protection from unavoidable danger.
How heavy those suits must have been? How uncomfortable? How inconvenient? How unattractive? How ridiculous?
I’m sure all of those thoughts must have went through their heads at some point and time, yet in the time of crisis … the time when faced with the unavoidable danger … I’m sure they were willing to make the necessary sacrifice and endure the pain of the armor in order to be protected.
This life is no different. Since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, the war between the flesh and the Spirit has raged. There is a battle between the two taking place in the mind of each and every person who has ever, is now and will ever walk this earth.
We must diligently guard our minds, providing protection from things that Satan can use to manipulate and tempt us. I find that Satan uses things I willing allowed my mind to be entertained by … television … movies … conversations … magazines … technology … social media … music … and the list could literally go on and on. Each and every second I spend lingering in the darkness provides Satan with one more opportunity to cause me to stumble.
“When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.” Luke 4:13
Instead embrace the Light … linger there …
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8
