“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19
Why we would choose to linger in the past instead of embracing the present… embracing what God is doing now. Looking towards the hope of what is to come!
Man, what if Moses would have kept looking back at the past that was furiously chasing them – the Pharaoh’s men – the pain they endured at the hands of those men! What would have happened had they lingered there? Choosing to remember the former things? They may not have seen the miraculous parting of the waters. How it started with just a ripple… or how it split evenly, one side moving to the left and the other to the right… or how it gradually opened up, revealing the true power of God’s hand.
Has your past left you broken? Wounded? Empty? Abandoned? __________?
Friend I encourage us to leave the past where is it, behind us, and embrace what today brings. We have been promised something new… something supernatural… something that is sure to leave us standing in awe of the God who created us, the God who is zealous for us!
God is ZEALOUS!
Zealous can be defined as: full of enthusiasm.
Take a minute and think about that… God is full of enthusiasm over YOU… The One who spoke this very world into existence with His breath! W…O…W!
Heavenly Father, I come to you today thanking You for Your many promises to a people who don’t deserve them. We prove to You and the rest of the world daily of what we really deserve by how short we fall when compared to Your precious Son. Yet even still, You stand firm, unchanged, and never wavering in Your decision to unconditionally love us. We are never a decision You regret!
Wow!
Even saying that now how ashamed I feel at the people I regret entering into a relationship with, but not You. No You regardless of our sins, You still offer a relationship, a meaningful and intimate relationship with all who come. Father help us to forget our past. Help us to not remember those former things, and as Satan tries to bring them back to the front of our minds, Lord I pray that You would capture that thought and make it obedient to Christ. Help us to linger in the present, in the right here and the right now. Because Lord what You are doing now… this new thing… is sure to be better than anything that our past can offer us. For it’s in Jesus name I pray, amen!
